called northern Uganda the world’s worst neglected humanitarian disaster.
A Brilliant Genocide is an expose of the brutal campaigns by the Yoweri Museveni regime to wipe out a significant part of Uganda’s Acholi people under the guise of crushing a rebellion by The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). It lays bare the atrocities committed by Museveni’s army against the Acholi people of Northern Uganda since 1986 when he seized power. It includes interviews with survivors of the most pre meditated torture and murder. It is unfathotmable what has occurred, civilians who were raped in front of their families by Museveni’s soldiers, people buried alive, tortured and burnt alive, a form of abuse hitherto unheard of in Uganda: the humiliation and deprivation of a particular ethic group that has suffered like no other in Uganda’s history.
The documentary is the untold story of a people who were placed in what amounts to concentration camps where the death rates from planned neglect exceeded 50,000 people per year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) over a period spanning over a decade. A Brilliant Genocide is a counterpoint to Kony 2012, which brought worldwide awareness to the crimes committed by the LRA. It shows how the Museveni regime has used Kony as a straw man, enabling the Ugandan government to garner international sympathy and resources in the supposed “war on terrorism” while in fact diverting attention from its own crimes against humanity in northern Uganda.
It includes interviews with Museveni’s former close associates, involved in conducting some of the most bloodiest campaigns in the north, and many other prominent Ugandan thinkers, opposition figures, activists, exiles and émigrés.
This is the untold story of how an African dictator has been able to commit mass murder and still get a regular audience at The White House and 10 Downing Street. It comes at a critical time in Uganda’s history when Gen. Museveni, has after 30 years of rule been re-elected, in what many critics around the world are calling a sham election.

Thanks Ebony for the good work, my colleague Muheebwa Hillary has followed your work and told me about it some time back, but its today that am reading about all this good work your doing in our beautiful lands of the woods. I have traveled to Northern Uganda a number of times and truth is transport is a challenge. So, this Bikes for Life is such a wise creation. About the Documentary, I hope and pray it does not misrepresent US… most of times, films have been made about Africa whose sentiments and message we do not share or agree with. Nevertheless I think you are doing a good Job.

Thank you Nathan – One thing I should mention – the film is not my story – the it is the story of the people I feature – in most cases Acholi people – it is there story and they tell the story – not me. So whether you think their views misrepresent who you are, I don’t know and cannot guarantee that…
But I am sure regardless of your opinion, you would not be upset or angered by what they ay as it their own experiences, their lives their history – so they have every right to share it and tell us what they believe – be it right or wrong.
The Acholi in particular have been so marginalised – they really have not had a voice at all – for a very long time… So this film is for them – not for all Acholi, but for the ones that touched my life, the one’s that cry to me and tell me I am the only person in the world trying to tell their story. So I really hope I do the project justice as it’s more than a film, more than a project – it’s people’s lives, and I’m committed to helping them have a voice, so don’t worry, I’m working in the best interest of your people!
