Our very important film #ABrilliantGenocide was lucky enough to be included in the Official Selection for feature documentary film’s at the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival, a festival that in 2013 MovieMaker Magazine voted ‘one of the top 25 coolest film festivals in the world‘.

This week in Iowa ‘A Brilliant Genocide’ will be having two special screenings at the festival so please spread the word as the sooner people are aware – the sooner there will be change in Uganda!! Schedule and Tickets available here or at the door. (please share on social media as you never know who knows someone in that part of the world!)

The Julien Dubuque International Film Festival acknowledges emerging filmmakers from around the world, with a strong emphasis on discovering new talent, supporting cause-related films and bringing together all elements of film making.

A Brilliant Genocide reveals the truth of what took place when Uganda’s lifelong President took power 30 years ago. An untold story of human suffering that continues today in silence.

We are calling for Obama to Cut Off U.S. Weapons To Gen Museveni Uganda’s Murderous Dictator Who Stole Elections!

“Although Africa has long been known to be rich in oil, extracting it hadn’t seemed worth the effort and risk until recently. But with the price of Middle Eastern crude skyrocketing, and advancing technology making reserves easier to tap, the region has become the scene of a competition between major powers that recalls the 19th-century scramble for colonization. Already, the United States imports more of its oil from Africa than from Saudi Arabia, and China, too, looks to the continent for its energy security.”

Can the United States restrain Chinese influence on the resource rich continent?

Bikes 4 Life Event Poster

The event is in support of our Bikes 4 Life Indigenous Program, and to celebrate our recent success in Africa, where we delivered 400 bicycles to remote communities and set up a bike workshop for former child soldiers and victims of Kony’s war in northern Uganda.

There will be food, music, magic and a short film preview of our work in Uganda.

Thanks for your support and I truly hope to see you on Thursday evening!

Uganda: Post-war youth vocational training (Chris Blattman)

To increase employment and reduce poverty, government and NGOs commonly train youth as carpenters, tailors, mechanics, welders, cooks and other vocations. Evidence is thin, however, on the worth and effectiveness of such spending.

We are working with Uganda’s Office of the Prime Minister and The World Bank to evaluate Uganda’s largest youth vocational training program. The evaluation will answer several key questions, including:

  • How does the program impact the lives of beneficiaries?
    • How many start up and sustain a business?
    • What is the impact on income, employment, assets, and savings?
    • What are the determinants of success (and failure) in vocations and entrepreneurship?
  • How do any economic gains spill over into other areas of life:
    • physical and psychological health;
    • risky behaviors;
    • social and political participation;
    • investments in children’s health and education; and
    • the transfer knowledge to neighbors and friends?
